Barbara Risman came to UIC because she wanted to be part of this up and coming department in an exciting university and city. UIC Sociology has faculty who are experts in the globalization processes in our current world, particularly the changing urban landscape. It also has faculty who study racial, ethnic, and gender inequalities in contemporary American society. Other faculty focus their attention on work, labor markets, and organizations. And of course, with one of the largest health centers in the world on our campus, UIC also has faculty with expertise in health and medicine.  UIC Sociology faculty excel in teaching, research, and service
